Location

Our brand new clinic is located by the traffic lights in Bruntsfield at 168 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh, EH10 4ER.

What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is all about helping people recover from injury, prevent setbacks and perform at their best. Rather than focusing solely on where it hurts, our physios looks at the demands your sport or training places on your body and helps you build the capacity to meet them.

Our Physiotherapy team doesn’t just chase symptoms. They identify the underlying cause, address the movement and strength deficits contributing to the problem, and create a plan that helps you return stronger and stay there.

Getting here:

There are a number of buses that stop 15s from the clinic – 11, 15, 16, 23, 36, 45.

If you drive here we recommend downloading the Ringo app for ‘pay and display’ parking either on Bruntsfield Place, Forbes Road, Viewforth, Bruntsfield Terrace, Leamington Terrace or Westhall Gardens. More parking details can be found on Google maps.

By foot or cycle – we are right next to the traffic lights on the high street between Cheynes hairdresser and Iolla eyewear. There are bike rails to padlock your bike outside near Edinburgh bookstore.

When should I arrive:
Please arrive 5-10mins before your appointment to ensure you are checked in. If you are running late please phone us so we know you are on your way.
How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you need depends on your condition, your goals, and how your body responds to treatment. Some people feel significant pain relief within a few sessions, while others benefit from a longer rehabilitation plan to fully address the underlying cause of the problem.

Early treatment often focuses on reducing pain and improving comfort. As you progress, the focus shifts towards identifying and addressing the factors that contributed to the issue in the first place, such as strength, movement, or load tolerance. This approach helps support longer term recovery and reduces the chance of symptoms returning.

After your initial assessment, your physiotherapist will give you a clearer idea of what to expect and discuss a plan that suits your needs.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. As a private physiotherapy practice, you do not need a GP referral to book an appointment with us. You can self refer and access treatment directly.

Is sports massage just for athletes?

Not at all. Despite the name, sports massage isn’t just for runners, gym-goers or professional athletes. It’s a hands-on treatment that helps relieve muscle tension, reduce stiffness and improve movement for anyone.

Whether you spend long hours at a desk, have a physically demanding job, enjoy regular exercise, or simply wake up with tight shoulders or an aching back, sports massage can help you move and feel better.

Deep tissue massage uses targeted pressure to release tight muscles and connective tissue. Your therapist will tailor the pressure to your comfort level and goals, so treatment is not about “no pain, no gain.” It is about effective, personalised care.

Who Can Benefit?

  • Office workers with neck, shoulder or back tension
  • Parents lifting young children
  • Tradespeople and manual workers
  • Gym members and recreational runners
  • People recovering from everyday aches and muscle tightness

Do you treat non-athletes?

Yes. Sports physiotherapy is not just for athletes. We treat anyone who wants to move better, recover from injury, or reduce pain during daily activities. This includes people who exercise regularly, as well as those returning to walking, work, or normal day to day movement after injury.

Our approach is based on understanding how your body moves and what your goals are, whether that is returning to sport, staying active, or simply moving with more confidence and less discomfort.

Is sports massage painful?

Sports massage can sometimes feel intense, especially when working on tight or sensitive areas. However, the level of pressure is always adjusted to your comfort and preferences. Some techniques may create short term discomfort, but it should never feel unbearable.

We maintain open communication throughout the treatment so you can let us know how you are feeling at any time. The pressure can be increased or reduced depending on your response, ensuring the session is effective while still staying within a comfortable and manageable level for you.

Does private health insurance cover treatment?

Yes. We work with several major private health insurance providers. This includes Aviva, Vitality, WPA, Healix and Axa Health.

Coverage depends on your individual policy, so we recommend checking with your insurer before your appointment to confirm what is included. If required, we can provide invoices or reports to support your claim and help with the reimbursement process.

What if I am really early to my appointment?

Whilst we have a lovely seating area, if you are more than 30 minutes early please consider browsing the nearby independent shops or grabbing a coffee or tea at Artisan Roast coffee shop.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please consider bringing shorts and/or a vest depending on your appointment i.e. shorts if it is a knee injury. If you are coming for a personal training session please bring indoor trainers.

Can I bring my partner/friend?

Absolutely! For any physio appointments you are more than welcome to come accompanied.
